Got a funky knee

There's something wrong with my knee but I don't know what. I can pinpoint the problem to last week when I went cycling. It feels like it just needs to click back into place but it's been like this for more than a week now. It's fine when I'm running, but work involves standing up all day, and it gets a bit stiff and painful. Also when I kneel down properly (sitting on my feet) it hurts like hell. Does anyone have any ideas, and should I see my doctor?

My knee is messed up.. I think I have excess liquid in it, but have not been bothered to do anything about it.

I cycle all the time, and its when I run it just seems as if there isn't much cartilage in my joints and nothing to cushion my bones and it really hurts.. I'm ONLY 17 lol.

Also, playing football last night (after I got going, my knees were ok) I got kicked in the little bone bit below my knee cap.. soo much pain from a little knock I couldn't walk properly. When I woke up this morning I couldn't bend it at all.. but once I got moving I was ok.

you definitely need to see the doctor .. don't know how serious it could be without a doc checking it

What about when you sit with it bent for a long time, eg in a cinema or with your legs tucked up?

i had a similar problem when i started the gym a couple of months back. for the first couple of weeks i kept feeling a pulling sensation, like the bone needed to click back into place. then after a while when i used to stretch my leg out from a bent position it used to hurt like hell. i eventually avoided bending my leg at all. i went to the GP who referred me to physio. the physio therapist examined my leg movement and told me 'it's a natural phenomenon'. turned out i had unusually flexible legs and hip movement. this was having an effect on how my muscles worked. my upper thigh muscles turned out to be not working at all, hence a bad tremble in them when he tested those muscles with some exercises. this was basically having an effect on my knees somehow... so i had to have physiotherapy treatment for about 2 months to strengthen those upper thigh muscles. the pain in the knee went away and i stopped the doing the treatment but now it's returned so i'll probably starting up those exercises again.

I don't know if its a similar thing for you, but i'm sure theres no harm in getting a referral to a physiotherapist if your really worried and its really bothering you.

Are you going uphill in too higher a gear? This could be a cause of it, as you dont realise the stress being put on your joints. The muscles can take the work, but your knee cant.

Could be that, as I hadn't been cycling for about 4 years before then! Also could be what mally suggested, as my running is a fairly recent thing. Anywho I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow about it (very painful time at work with it today)
Thanks for the advice guys
Have you tried resting it properly? I think you should see your GP about it anyway.
Oh yeah, I can relate - stuffed my knee about a month ago so couldn't rock climb for a couple of weeks :frown: Lol.

See a doctor, they'll be able to find out exactly where in the knee you are hurt and issue you with proper medication and exercise tips.

You may need to rest for a few days, and move your knee around in slow circles to increase circulation (I studied human physiology at uni  ).

Definitely go see your doctor. Knee injuries can hurt like hell and in my experience tend to be recurring :frown: Best to get it checked out so you know what's wrong and (should it be recurring) you'll know how to deal with it in the future.
