My tutors at school keep saying I shouldn't be referring to myself so much in my personal statement, particularly things like 'this helped me...' or 'i am particularly interested in...' I'm really not sure how to make it personal without talking about me.

    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance

Your personal statement is about you, though. I'd say ignore them and continue to talk about the way that things have helped YOU and the things YOU are interested in.

    Sounds like guff

Teachers aren't always the best judges of a PS - https://www.tes.com/news/school-news...-ucas-personal

It might be that they mean your PS sounds a bit repetitive which is quite common. But that's something that can be tweaked in a final draft.
