I get maintence loans, but my sister said I wouldn't need it and shouldn't use it.
Does anyone study at home and use maintence loans?

You may have course costs. Take it. You may need it.

I personally live away from home but my friends who chose to live with parents are using for multiple reasons. For most it's saving money for when they do move out. Because things like deposits and agency fees can cost quite a bit. I know someone who is saving it and planning to use it for a deposit on a house once they finish uni and get a proper job.
Also general fees you have like traveling and books, etc

As above, you will need to cover travel to/from uni, plus any course expenses. You will also need money if you want to buy food and drink on campus. Sometimes parents appreciate (or expect) a contribution to rent/mortgage/food/bills etc.

You don't have to take out the maximum Maintenance Loan to which you are entitled. You can request less if you want to.

Most of my friends contribute to their parents by paying rent, or doing the weekly food shopping. You'll need to get lunch for uni unless you bring food, you'll need to pay course costs, for transport and for social events (going for meals out, days out, nights out, etc.)

Get it. If you don't use it it doesn't matter

Also, if you decide to live away from home for second year, you'd need money for a desposit, rent, etc. So if you take the loan and save some of it, you've got that covered.
