Applying to courses with different names?

    • Thread Starter

The courses I'm applying to are all mostly similar (Arabic & Politics, Politics with International Relations, and International Relations & Security Studies) but I'm worried about writing things in my personal statement like:

"I want to study Politics and International Relations because...."

because, to me, that seems like a university would read it, see that it's not tailor made to the course and discard it. I feel like it's going to be unavoidable to use the words politics and international relations at some point, I was just wondering what anyone else thought about this?

Try not to make your statement too course specific, so avoid naming any of the courses. I know people who applied for different courses which are similar to each other but had different names (chemistry, biochemistry etc.) and they avoided course names, so it's best to try and mould it to show words that can relate to all of the titles without having to actually say "I want to study politics".
