I'm 24. I do my own thing on the side and make about an additional 1k per year plus my low 16k after tax salary job. My family is drivinf me crazy and its time to move out! I know of two mutuals who are also looking for house mates but they earn more than me by some amount and proceeding with them may be hard for due to different budgets for rent. Say I end up sharing a 3 bedroom flat with 2 other house mates, whats the ideal budget for me? I'm thinking £450-£500 seems reasonable. Somebody mentioned countil tax, no idea what this is. Is that added on top? Honestly regretting London right now but my jobs here!

Find out what the average rent is for the flat and then divide it by 3 to cost the room, although if you take the smallest room you should pay less. You should also pay 1/3 of the CT bill. It all depends where you intedn to live.

depends on council tax and utilities as well as food/water & other bills. Id say you can afford to spend a total of £1k total so a rent of up to £700 seems fair if you want a few hundred left over.
