Hey, I just wanted to have your views on that. Remember the Edexcel scandal with the p2 cheaters whcih was discovered thanks to UKL? Well, I was wondering, would they set a bit lower A-grade boundaries in order to make up or will they be ignorant fools and just carry on as nothing happened?

I guess it depends on how people do overall, I doubt that the scandal has had that much effect in raising the number of people getting grade As.

It was all found out on these forums?

Its been over a month since the UKL Edexcel P2 scandel, and since that time there has been a release of "Edexcel News" (Issue 5) a magazine type thing available on the internet.

Does it admit to any failings ? Nope.

Did the Edexcel website at any time put a statement up about it's exam papers that were compromised (not just the P2 one) ? Nope.

Its almost as if, other than for press "soundbites" (a spokesperson for Edexcel said...... etc), nothing happened.

But I thought it wasn't Edexcels fault?

There comes a point where, as the ruling body, Edexcel has to take the blame.

AQA and OCR don't seem to have so many papers go missing, do they?

Thing is, I still reckon Pete2004 did shite on that Maths Exam, really!

And how much did they go on about "we're tracing the source of the leak, they will be prosecuted and blah blah blah! nothing will be affected!" ..I've not heard anything for a while.

Check out the link below to see the following exam papers from AQA, Edexcel and OCR which have been affected in this years A Level and AS Level examinations.

I don't believe they have been posted on the Internet, but that isn't the point. The fact is they have been tampered with and could still affect people who have taken these exam papers.

Edexcel's P2 questions were posted here, or here to be exact.

Thats true, but there also comes a point when students have to accept the possibilty that every bad grade they get isn't the fault of the exam board, Edexcel or otherwise.

One of the worst possible outcomes to this could be if following the publication of results, exam boards are pressured by students/schools into increasing grades unnecisarily. Although, to be fair, this is unlikely to be the case with something like Maths where the answers are either right or wrong.

Sure it could be the case. Cheating => some people getting artificially high scores => difficultly of paper is underestimated => people have grades unfairly pushed down.

My worries exactly, fishpaste

perhaps im being naiive, but i dont think that THAT MANY will have cheated on the test, and have scored highly ( we are guessing) as result, to effect the overall percentage of people getting A's, B's, C's. etc.
people who without cheating would have got crap marks, may simply be easily noticed if they are trying to write answers from memory rather than understanding what they are writing.
secondly, people who have cheated who would have done "ok" without cheating, will not really affect the grade boundaries i wouldnt imagine as they may have done better or worse in the exam anyway....

any thoughts?

Totally the point I was trying to make!
I honestly don't think that the number of people cheating would be that high, and even if it was how will it be assesesed? I really hope that this isn't blown out of proportion once the results are out.

too many people recieve help on here anyway. before exams everyone is helping each other and telling each other things which help people get higher marks for free that otherwise they wouldnt have got. this website has probably contributed 1000s of marks for people over the years.

it wasnt edexcels fault, how could it have been. there shouldnt be allowed to be help forums for work. people should have to research themselves. if they find that anyone else knew about the papers then they should be disqualified from all exams theyve ever taken and go to prison.

What a load of crap. Helping people isn't cheating  Everyone should have access to information and help when they need it.
