I had one friend during GCSEs that was always getting As in work during the year (we knew it was because her Mum did her homework, but never let on). When we did the final exams, me and another friend were very competitive with her, so when she did worse than us, yes, we were happy.

Lol :p: I mean I want my friends to have done well and everything, but it also makes you feel good when you beat them with grades etc.

Haha. Well unless someone cheats, I'm happy to do worse than them.
Still...at least my Mum didn't get my GCSEs for me. :p:

Does anyone here sort of 'compete' with frends as far as results are concerned? Like you won't say it out loud, but inside you're hoping you'll do better than everyone else, or at least do as well as them? In some subjects that I see myself very good at, I want to do better, but I can accept that in some I won't have done as good in as my friends.

why wouldn't you want to be a bit competitive lol
friendly competition drives people to do well
i personally am more competitive for small things like unit tests (it just helps u through the year) etc, for major exams i think its a bit childish
certainly dont go around thinking 'if they can do it, i can do it' though lol - thats just arrogance :p:

I'm sure everyone's a bit competitive but I don't really think I've been that competitive since GCSE. Most of my school friends who I used to compete against have slacked off at college and now only get 'mediocre' grades. I'm not bothered about 'beating' anyone else in my A-levels; as long as I get the grades I need for uni, I'll be really happy  .

Actually that's true for me too; I'm more competitive for small tests than big ones like AS/A2 exams.

True for me as well, in my philosophy class me and a friend were very competitive over essays and small quizes but only in a friendly way. On results day we'll just be congratulating each other.

Other than that, I'm more competitive with people I know but aren't necessarily friends, I will be trying to find out what other people got just to compare, especially people I've known for ages and then drifted apart from.

Aw. Just remember you're not out to do better than other people, the best thing to do is to only compete with yourself; know that you've done the best you can do.

Not really at A-level, there was probably a little bit of friendly rivalry during the end-of-topic tests we had in science every few weeks during school

I don't compete with friends, but I did put my all into my SATS and GCSEs so that I could beat my brother. Which I did.

Not really, but there was one girl at College who consistently had one mark more than me in every exam since the age of about 12.

Reply 17

I'm not gonna deny that if I do better than my friends I feel kinda happy, but I wouldn't if they got a really bad mark but I did well. I'm probably more competitive in the end of unit tests too because they're not that important so it's a bit of light hearted competition. The only problem with that is you get all this pressure to do well in the final exam n you just have to hope that you do well in the end!

No I don't like comparing my results to other people's - chance are their results are a hell of a lot better than mine or they say that the only reason I get the grades I do is because I chose the 'easy' subjects

*Woe is me*

Oooo i hate that when people try to take something away from your achievement! I know someone that takes maths and tries to make me think that I got the grade easily.Grrrr......
