some get sent to exam boards, because the examiners want to see if the marking is good.

Examiners take a handful. Even if one coursework goes down a grade then the whole year's coursework will also. They wouldn't even take it in for remark

    please elaborate
it is a teacher's responsibility to mark coursework, exam boards take a few coursework that have been marked, to check if the marking is accurate, to check if the grade is not too high or too low.

USUALLY, what happens is that the teachers mark it and then they send the best one and the worst one and a few others off to be moderated. The exam board checks the marking and decides whether they've marked them well, whether they've been to lenient / too harsh, or whether they need to see some more to decide. If the exam board decides that your school has been too lenient in the marking, then they will reduce everyone's grades by a certain amount. If the exam board decides your school was too harsh, then they'll increase everyone's grades by a certain amount (capped at full marks of course)

i know teachers in school mark them and i was wondering if the teachers then send them off to the exam board for remark or do they take the teachers word and just put it on the results sheet?
    anyone know?
Teacher marks coursework. Another teacher then checks coursework (internal standardisation, to check all coursework has been marked appropriately and to the same standard.) Marks are entered online. Exam board sends school a list of the pieces of coursework they would like sent to a moderator for external checking. Moderator either agrees with marks or adjusts. Marks are adjusted but school is not notified of adjustments until results are released.
