    Hi,
My daughter is preparing to put her UCAS application in soon but now this Diamond Review has recommended that the Welsh Government scraps the tuition fee grant and replaces it with means tested maintainance grants.

The review suggests that this won't be brought in until 2018/19 but what about students like my daughter who is starting in 2017/18 - will she then stay on the existing regime for the duration of her course or will she move onto the new regime once that comes into force (assuming it does of course)?

Students applying now need to know now as it may affect their decision as to whether to go to university.

    Thanks

I was trying to find out about this for my son who also starts uni next year. I found this on Wales Online:

Education Secretary Kirsty Williams has reassured students currently undertaking higher education that their financial support will not change and be honoured for the duration of their studies. Ms Williams said students already in the system and those who enter the system on one specific support package “will compete their educational journey on that support package”.
Taking that on face value it would seem that the new proposals would only apply to students starting uni in 2018.

The above information is correct. If you change a course, you're then switched to the new changes. But if you start before 2018 and carry on your course, what you receive won't change.
