Higher Maintenance Loan amount

    • Thread Starter

When applying for Student Finance the calculator advised that I may be eligible for £5467 in maintenance loan as my income is low, I'm a lone parent, on income support.

I was awarded £3774 for the maintenance loan and £3387 for the maintenance grant. As well as the parent learning allowance and my childcare grant, Is this correct?

I originally applied for a Special Support Grant however that doesn't seem to be in place, I'm not receiving much more money from SFE now than I was without a child, but now I have 15% of my childcare cost to pay out of my maintenance loan and grant as the childcare only covers 85% of the cost.

    It doesnt make sense.

If you are receiving both the maintenance loan and grant together then the loan is reduced by half so this would be why its not as much as the calculator suggested and also the calculator is an estimate.

As we do not have access to your account on The Student Room I cannot advise if the amount of support you are receiving is correct

I would advise you to call us on 0300 100 0607 we can access your account and check why you haven't been awarded special support grant , it may be that we require further evidence.

Which party will you be voting for in the General Election 2017?
