Why does Imperial have another course for undergrad named 'Pure Mathematics'? None of Oxbridge, UCL etc. has this course.

What are the benefits of studying pure maths that I won't get from maths?

Well! I am more enthusiastic about pure maths, and I submitted my application to Imperial. But I didn't notice there was a pure maths option, so I chose maths as I did for other varsities. :/

    Can I now change it?

First year is the same, second year you specialise a bit more into pure maths and third year your specialise even more. Essentially your third year module choices are different.

A lot of universities just give you a load of options to take during your degree. (here, 2nd and 3rd years can take pretty much any combination as long as they have the 1st/2nd year module requirements and it doesnt clash)

Imperial just does this a bit differently. Since the first year is the same I don't think you'd have any problem transferring to the pure options at the end of your first year.

Thank you for your reply! But now that I have submitted my application through UCAS for 2017 entry for the course of Mathematics (G100), can't I change it to Pure Mathematics (G125)? :/

You'll be able to change during your first year, I'm sure. The modules you do in the first year are the exact same.

    Thank you for your suggestion!

Well! My course has been amended to Pure Mathematics (G125) after I told the admissions office to do so.

But I had already registered for the MAT exam before they amended it. And in the registration form of MAT, I mentioned that I was applying for Mathematics (G100) at Imperial. I asked the admissions office regarding this via email, and they replied, "There is no concern with your course change and the MAT."

Does that mean it is okay?
