displayed structure penalising? Watch

when drawing a displayed formula of, lets say butan-1-ol, would i get marked down by having -OH on the first carbon instead of -O-H?
My friend thinks so but i think not

I would think so, yes. As in a displayed formula you should show all of the bonds.

Of course outside of exams this is completely pointless.

It isn't worth the risk. If asked for a displayed formula, show every bond.
