I didn't do well in my GCSEs and got 7 passes grade c and above including Maths and English. I've started my A levels and enjoying them although they are challenging I find them interesting. There's a lot of work as they are essay based but I am on top of it and I've been receiving Bs and Cs for submitted work. The teacher who mentors me has raised some concerns over me being able to cope and achieve a worthwhile A level grade ( minimum C grade) in the subjects. I feel as though I'm being written off based on my GCSEs.

Can you speak to your teacher as to why they feel that way, and possibly take some of their advice on board if it's constructive to prove them wrong?

That's what I plan to do. It's just knocked me back as I wanted to move forward and thought A levels were a clean slate. I know on reflection that there were some issues with how I was learning for my GCSEs and that I wasn't recalling effectively for the exams. I'm trying to access resources now to enable me improve my study techniques and get good grades.
