Can I do a Secondary PGCE after doing a primary education degree

    • Thread Starter

I just wondered if this was possible to keep the options open, or is it not because it's a professional degree rather than academic?

With QTS, you will be able to teach in primary or Secondary no problem. However, it will be slightly more difficult to get a job in Secondary because of where your experience will be, but not impossible! There's a free e-book call 'should I become a primary school teacher', it offers a lot of advice on the topic of what to expect when joining onto teacher training, might be worth a quick nose.

Hope this helps, best of luck!

It depends what you would want to teach in secondary. As far as I am aware most schools would want you to have a degree in your chosen subject, followed by getting a Secondary PGCE in your chosen subject.

However, as long as you can show an interest in your subject choice and link your primary education degree to it then it might be okay. Something like Health and Social Care might be perfectly find with what you have?

Have a look on the Get Into Teaching website and maybe send them an email to get a better answer
Which party will you be voting for in the General Election 2017?
