Based on:
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...laureate-ebacc

In June 2015, we announced our intention that all pupils who start year 7 in September 2015 take the EBacc subjects when they reach their GCSEs in 2020.

So the current year 8's and below have to take these at option time:

The EBacc is made up of:
English
mathematics
history or geography
the sciences
a language

Excellent decision by the government!
Probably a move to stop the decline of students choosing not to take a language.

Why is that a bad thing? A large amount of people that have taken a language, now regret it, as it is far different to any other subject, in terms of structure and content.
