I want to leave Waitrose :(

Right, to sum it up I started working at Waitrose about 1.5 months ago. I've just finished my GCSEs and am only 16 years old and it is my first job so basically my friends and family were quite proud of me for getting the job because only about 15% of people who applied got the job- it was a new store opening.
I kind of enjoyed it for the first few weeks getting to know everyone and just training for the job. Then, it all started going downhill. Now, please forgive me for sounding so arrogant or anything because I know a lot of people on here are desparately looking for part-time jobs (I was once like this!)...
Yes, so although Waitrose sounds like a great employer and things, the manager is quite annoying! For example, he always puts me on extra time on random days like Tuesdays or Wednesdays when my contract is only Friday/Saturday evenings (I will be starting sixth form in Sep) and on this Friday I am working until 9.30 pm, then on Saturday he put me on a 6.30 am start without even asking first... I found out accidently when I was checking the rota during my break. And the worst thing is that it is my little sisters birthday on Saturday and we all organised to go to Blackpool together for a good time to be back quite early so I could still do my evening shift. So, I phoned up to tell them this but he wasn't in and I couldn't tell him on the day I saw the rota because he was on holiday!
So, what should I do? To be honest I want to quit as soon as I can but the contract says I need to give 2 weeks notice. Also, I will be starting sixth form in September and my contractual working hours on Friday are 4 to 9.30 pm so I don't know if I will be able to get to work on time (my sixth form is about 50 minutes away from work) especially if I am doing after-school activities (which I do plan to do lots of in sixth form).
Sorry, about the rant, but what would you put in your resignation letter? I plan to send it to them right now putting no reason in, but I read on the internet that you MUST invent an excuse? I don't want to s*** them off in the letter incase it ruins any future reference they give me... Should I just say I am sorry I will be starting sixth form and that is my priority? Or, should I do as my dad says and give it them in September after a few days of sixth form saying I have found that I am unable to cope with study/job?
Sorry about the rant but any useful replies willl be TRULY appreciated because I am sooo mad at Waitrose!
Also, for all you desparate job seekers out there- enjoy your free time!

I've sent you a message:yy:
The law states that under 18 year olds must have at least a 12 hour break between each shift. So they can't have you working until 9:30pm then in at 6:30am the next day - make sure they know you're aware of this.
quit as soon as the hoilday is over give your noitce now. I work in mcondalds and I am quiting in september....my till was £12 down for no reason and for this I will have 3 hourse of work deducted from my pay....and the mangares yell more than the customers...retail is great for the summer but frankly am going to get a good education so I won't have to do this s*** started 2 weeks ago going to give in noitce in 2 weeks all i want is cash fro the summer, your young too and so should you.
Worked in primark last year truth: young people = cheap labour.
I worked on monday tues and wed from 6.30am in the morning till 4pm in the evning and STILL my manager tried to wiggly out of giving me breaks.

Basically you're only 16, they will abuse your labour as much as they think they can get away with. Don't let them bully you into more hours than you can reasonably do, and if it's too much, just quit.

Erm, your manager will find that they are stuck. Even if they have pulled a Morrisons and say that you have to flex to the needs of the company, they cannot put you down for random hours like what your manager is doing. As long as you turn up for your contracted hours and work hard, they can huff and puff, but there is no way your house is going to blow down. I have experience of this. They will try intimidation, meetings "counselling", but you have them signed into a contract.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your replies.
I've spoken to my Section Manager yesterday and he sorted out the Saturday morning issue so it won't happen again (fingers crossed)
Also, as for the sixth form issue, I am going to be patient and see if I can manage in Sep- if I can't then I will quit because I had to go through 3 (very difficult) interviews to get the job!

ouch... are you a franchised restaurant? Our policy on cash loss is discipline (retrain, verbal, written) moving up a level each time - it's never deducted from your wages. As far as I am aware what happened to you isn't the standard way of dealing with this at McDonald's. Though if you are a franchise it may differ.
i work at waitrose and have a laugh every friday night, especially as there are barely any customers! i think it must just be your manager cos i can ask mine pretty much whatever and he agrees! our assistant manager is horrible tho, she has a go at everyone all the time and gets really stroppy! but waitrose is generally a really good employer so try and stick with it.

also try getting your supervisors to talk to the manager or if that fails, if they are nice they will probably just change the rota for you! mine have been really helpful with that sort of thing :p:

good luck xxx

Yes it is the same at the McDonalds I work at, you get 3 retrains and then a verbal warning, then another 3 retrains and a written warning, then another 3 retrains and dismissal. There is no deducting from wages.

i feel the same way. i started in september at waitrose and am now in sixth form and was sixteen when i started they do take advantage and its so hard to say no because you want to be in their good books. But my personal opinion is most people at waitrose are scary and we both need to stand our ground with them. i do 3 days a week (evenings) and i have found myself missing days off of sixthform to do overtime i didnt want to do at 7am its hard to say no but we need to start
