Have you posted about this before?

Go and join MFP. Losing weight is straightforward. You just eat an amount that doesnt meet the daily calories your body needs. That creates a deficit and it finds those extra calories from the stored fat.

By eating less than you burn every day, the deficit helps you lose weight. 1-2lb a week is ideal. Keep it up and you carry on losing till you get to your target weight.

Controlling how much you eat is key. There are plenty of faqs on this site and more on MFP that explains the whole process. Join the forums on MFP and plenty of people will help you. plus you can get buddies who are also losing weight.

    Mistakes new dieters make:

Not being committed and wiling to take the action needed.
    Poor planning
    Not weighing their food accurately.
    Impatience
Starting with enthusaism going too hard and then giving up.
    Being unrealistic.
Not understanding what they are doing. It helps to learn about weight loss, butrition and exercise.
Getting disheartened and giving up too easily.
