Young hot doctor = embarrassing !

So I have some back problems and i went to see the doctor today . He was young and extremely handsome, we spent quite a while chatting waiting for the nurse to come. But then he had to perform some exams on me which involved my taking my clothes off:eek: all of them ! I was soooooo embarrassed, I´m not hideously deformed or anything but I have a little bit of tummy (although I m quite slim elsewhere). Nevertheless it was not a pleasant experience. I know he must have seen hundreds and hundreds of naked women , but what embarrasses me is that he was openly flirty etc.. and I have another appointment with him soon and he said " I m looking forward to getting to know you better". I can t see him again, it is too embarrassing !
I don t know what I want to acheive by this post ( ANON please-as you can see I am easily embarrassed).

what were the tests for?
That seems rather unprofessional on his part, making you feel uncomfortable. Request a different Doctor? A female one? :p:

i thought patients and doctors werent allowed to get to know each other better? isnt that unethical?
Well if it helps I'm pretty sure you have a human right to see a female doctor if they're gonna need you to take your clothes off

Just be careful he doesn't try to give you a TUBA. (Totally Unnecessary Breast Examination). This sounds harmless enough to me. I doubt he has a hidden agenda at all - he sees a lot of women naked. Even if he was trying to initiate a relationship, if we ignore the rules on this, why is that really so bad? As long as the nudity wasn't unnecessary and as long as he doesn't keep trying once the OP makes it clear she's uninterested (and it sounds to me like she's very interested)

Sounds like a pervert to me.
Omg what is it with doctors these days. I met a guy the other day...who was a doctor. We were getting to know each other...and turns out he's a complete pervert.
I'm staying away from doctors!!!!!
Sounds like he was actually just trying to be friendly and put you at ease (which obviously didn't work). Would you prefere he was cold and unfriendly towards you?
Like you said he sees lots of womens bodys, I doubt that your's caused him to run away in disgust, so stop worrying

Right let me rephrase that, he was extremely flirty- too flirty for me to feel comfortable being examined by him. Although he did not do anything wrong, I just felt more like i was being checked out at the beach than in a medical examination .

Well if you don't like the attention, make yourself seem uninterested, and he'll probably move on. If he's just testing the waters, it's not really any different to what people do anywhere. I know he's a doctor and they shouldn't really do that at work, but as long as it doesn't get physical or involve unnecessary nudity etc I wouldn't worry too much.

So he certainly was acting inappropriately?

Just ask to see a different doctor. They may ask you why you want to swap (They shouldn't but they might) and IF you want to avoid him getting in trouble you could just say you would prefer a female giving you your examinations.
My doc and I know each other quite well... isn't it called "doctor-patient relationship"? And isn't it supposed to be the purpose of having your own GP? Mine is really friendly and very often we end up chatting stuff kind of random. And to be honest, for the first couple of time, I thought she was being rude by putting a big smile on her face when I was sick, but then now I understand it's just her way of making me feeling more relaxed... and it works. So I guess your one would probably be somewhat similar. And if he is young, it means he might be new, so maybe he has still got that kind of student-ish sense of humour... but after all, if you dont feel ok seeing him then, ask to see another doctor, it's ur right to do it...

You went to him with back problems and he made you take all your clothes off? Surely if anything needed to be taken off it would just have been your top, nothing else. And being openly flirty - very, very unprofessional. Ask to see a different doctor next time, female if that makes you more comfortable. It sounds very wrong that he asked you to take all your clothes off - completely unnecessary, verging on the pervy.

Not quite. In fact, at least in Norway it is the exact opposite way around. The reason is simple. ALL female patients ( or at least the vast majority of them ) will request a female gynaecologist ( my mom is a gynaecologist, she knows about this ). As a consequence, if the patients would have their way all the workload would be shifted onto the female doctors, and it simply wouldn't remain plausible to hire male doctors. Now, since the hospital's quite rightly reasons that they can't start to hire only doctors of a particular gender, the consequence is that the rules are simple. You don't get to choose your doctor's gender. Period.

Apparently this is a particular problem with patients from, uhm, "other cultures" where the women's husband will typically complain if she gets assigned a male doctor. Now, while the Norwegian doctors had quite a problem dealing with this, they did have one male immigrant doctor who happens to come from one of the areas in question. Very briefly put his reaction when patients refuse to be examined by a male doctor tend to be along the lines of "it is either a male doctor or no doctor" only with more profanity...

So very simply put, no, you can't expect a doctor of a particular gender. My advice is to suck it up and realise that it really isn't the end of the world if another human sees you naked. Sorry to be harsh, but if hospitals are to choose between being a bit insensitive about this and to only treat half as many patients, then conservative attitudes towards nakedness goes out the window...
