# C1 Maths Significant Figures help watch

1. In my c1 maths book, even though you don't have a calculator in c1 it asks you to work out this:

x^2+10x+17

to 3 significant figures.

Is this possible without a calculator?

I presume that that's an equation equal to 0.

If so, there's no quick way to give an answer to three significant figures without a calculator, no. Give your answer in exact form instead is what I would suggest.*
3. (x+5)^2 - 8 (square completed).
4. OK thanks, thought something was weird about the question
