Massages

I want to get a massage because my neck and back often hurt because of the way i sit/sleep and stress.

I didn't think there were so many types - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massage

Sports massage is one I will prob use sometime soon but for general muscle relaxation I want one where they will go rough and really be extreme

Does anyone know what kind of massage I should be going for?

I don't know the answer regarding massages, but you might want to consider going to a chiropractor if you have back pain.

My mom does deep tissue massage, which is what you want. Many massage therapists don't use that much pressure - I know this because she's about to retire and she's trying to find someone who uses a similar technique to cover for her, and most of the therapists she's auditioned don't use enough pressure to continue treating her patients properly. She's resorted to seeking sports therapists and they seem to pretty much match her technique, because they're treating actual injuries instead of massaging for relaxation purposes. In short, I'd go with a sports therapist if you can't find a deep tissue masseuse near you

However, if you are getting neck and back pain then like the above person says you should really see a chiropractor. It might be expensive but if you use a chiropractor in conjunction with a good massage therapist, it will sustain the chiropractor's corrections and generally make the chiropractor's treatment easier. You'll feel better faster with both, basically

Its not constant back pain - as in medical emergency - just annoying niggles here and there.

i definitley get tension in my neck tho!

cheers - i will try and find a deep tissue one!

That's fine, you're still an ideal candidate for a chiropractor/deep tissue therapist

Just as a guess.. I bet those places will offer you cheaper rates if you are used as a 'model' for a training session. Like they do in hairdressers.

I'm afraid not, I only know about the people my mom works with and she's based in Poole - I'd suggest the phone book though, try under deep tissue and sports massage therapists  Or perhaps try your luck with google?

If you live nearby, the one that some of my friends recommend is Gateway Workshops. My friend did a one day course there.
