I'm looking to study a music business/management degree or one related to the business side of music. Does anyone have any experience of a course like this and what the universities are like that offer these courses?

I'm currently looking at the University of Hertfordshire, Bucks New, University of Gloucestershire, University of South Wales.

Any advice would be great as I'm looking for a university with good contacts and internship/ work experience opportunities as its a lot of who you know instead of what you know to get into the industry!

Can't speak for the last 3 but the UoH has a pretty good business school, MASSIVE focus on employability and enterprise, campus facilities are fantastic and work experience opportunities on the career hub are plentiful.

    Hi MusicRosie,

I just wanted to give you the opportunity to check Echo Factory out, if you were still a little unsure on other options that may be available, as we are now taking booking for Open Days! http://www.echofactory.co.uk/open-days/

If you want to know more about us, our Course Overview is available on our website.

We offer a BA(HONS) Music Business Degree (UCAS CODE: W375)

I wanted to give you a couple of points on why Echo Factory is a music school with a difference:

Our courses are designed to give you real-life music industry experience and insight and are based around the concept of 360 degree knowledge.

We focus fully on individual talents and the development of each of our students strengths.

Based in the buzzing, vibrant city of Leicester, if your wanting to pursue a career in music, whatever the role may be, you should definitely check out our courses.

On UCAS, we come under University of Wolverhampton as we are validated by them/ However you would be studying at our brand new facilities, which has a record studio, in house venue, lecture theatre and mac suites.

Make sure you check us out and pick up the phone for a chat! 0116 253 5657 or email me on [email protected], I am happy to have a chat and guide you to the right option for you.

    Speak soon,

    Taylor

    hey

i was in the exact same shoes as you last year and was so unsure of what to do!

Now, however, i do music business at ACM (the Academy of Contemporary Music) at the Guildford campus and it's amazing. If you're looking for a great/interesting course with tutors who really know what they're on about and industry links then ACM is deffo the place for you. The industry team here is literally called IndustryLink! but seriously, ACM offer so many opportunities and have so many connections to the industry that you can't really go wrong. I was told that the employment rate in to the industry after graduation for business students here is 100%. ACM is definitely worth a look, I've been doing my degree for just over a month now and have loved every minute of it, and you get to network with so many other students while you're here and meet people from the performance degrees and songwriting degrees too. Also, ACM has a much more smaller and selective intake, meaning your classes are quite small and you get a lot more attention and focus form tutors (music business course only have an intake of about 40/50 people every year). Be sure to look in to ACM!
