Cheap solution for international students? (sixth-form)

Dear all,

I am (again) asking this on the behalf of a desperate parent. I have been looking through a list of available sixth-form colleges that are holding exhibition in my country. They offered two types of courses, foundation-1-yr and A-level-2-yr. (for around GBP25,000 p.a.). Is there other institutions that offer a much cheaper solution and is still open for application for 2007/2008 entry now?

Hi:smile: I'm an international student studying in uk so I do know quite a bit about boarding schools/admission procedures/fees etc so feel free to ask!
I'm not sure where you come from but I've never heard of 1 year foundation courses, sorry:s-smilie: As to A-levels though... I'm assuming that you mean taking the course at a boarding school. I've been looking at most of the better ones in UK and generally, the fees for good boarding schools are between 22k-25k p.a. [anything more expensive than that is probably located in london or just v.v. overpriced] although I've also seen some schools [of dubious quality, however] with fees as low as 17k-19k. So the answer to your first question would be yes, there are institutions that offer a course at a cheaper price than 25k.
However it could prove a challenge to find a place for the school year2007/2008 as many schools tend to have deadlines for applications at least a few months before the summer holidays. Anyhow nothing's impossible, I know that for example my old school would take anyone who'd turn up with a bag of money [not quite literally but you get the point] so don't give up  [For reference, I used to go to Royal Wolverhampton School and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone as such - it's a truly miserable place but some do seem to like it]
I hope I've helped a little and good luck with your search

if you are eligible for a foundation course, then many universities offer foundation courses around GBP7,000-9,000. However, you will then most probably have to remain in the same university for your undergraduate course.

Other than that, there are several independent Foundation and A level degree programmes which do not have any special arrangements with any University or Institution. And their price is around GBP7,000- 9,000.

some sites to start with:

You could go to a state sixth form and live with a host family. Costs about £20 000 less.
