    Hi everyone,

I am currently working on the final parts of my Personal Statement to apply for the 15th of October-deadline. After myriads of redrafts I finally feel somewhat comfortable with the content, but I keep asking myself if applying early will harm my application at the other 4 choices as they would know that I also applied for Oxbridge and, thus conclude that I only regard them as second-choice. In two passages of my PS I clearly indicate that It was [it will be] finished in October. Maybe someone has made the experience or somehow possesses the knowledge to answer my question.

PS: If given, please excuse any errors. It has been a long day

As far as I know the other unis will have no idea where you applied to as they are not allowed to see this. But I'm not totally sure of this. Anyway why indicate when your personal statement was finished? I'm applying to Cambridge so I'm in the same situation. But why would other unis not want you? If you have the grades and a personal statement that is good enough they will make you an offer.

While they may think you have applied to Oxbridge as your application has gone in early they will not actually know. Many people put in early applications because they simply want to get on with it. It will not harm your other choices, none of the universities know where else you have applied. Good Luck.

Other universities will absolutely assume you have applied for Oxbridge, given the timings. This will in no way negatively affect your application. You're viewing this as an issue of politeness, where you risk offending universities' admissions tutors by considering them to be second-best. They will not care about this.

It's common knowledge that Oxford and Cambridge are viewed as the best UK universities, and few people are going to be annoyed by a top student applying to the best university for their subject. If anything, it shows confidence in your abilities, and so could even be a slight boost. That last part's pure speculation though.

Surely a genuine Oxbridge applicant would have the intellect to realise that many previous Oxbridge offer holders have received plenty of offers from other universities in the past? Therefore, their application wasn't discriminated as a result.

I've never heard of anyone being impacted for applying early. I myself did last year and received all 5 offers.

I've even heard of some people applying early to make it look to other universities like they are also applying to Oxbridge, because universities want the best candidates, so even an Oxbridge reject is better than someone who wasn't good enough to apply to Oxbridge at all.

I'm applying for Cambridge myself and I asked my other unis about this issue, they said it would be okay and they wouldn't discriminate against me being an Oxbridge applicant so my first choice would be Cambridge (if by some miracle I got an offer). Instead, actually, I think it would work in my favour.

    No. It makes no difference.
