    I quite like "in what year did x happen", because those who know the topic well usually have it exact, but those who have no idea can always have a decent guess

    Dates of kings and queens is always popular... for quizzes you want questions that will generate answers that are unambiguously either right or wrong.

    i.e. don't ask 'what was the cause of the russian revolution'
    do ask 'what year did lenin die'
