Dear All,

Students for Ethical Science are looking for OUSA conference delegates who will support the
ungrouping of a motion which supports animal research, on the grounds that the grouping will prevent
discussion of the said motion and that the grouping is inappropriate. Grouping of motions is only
appropriate for non-controversial motions (OUSA handbook, Constitution page 45). This clearly does
not apply to this motion:

'The association recognises the importance of certain experiments involving animals when there are
medical research benefits. The Association resolves to review the existing policy and asks the
Executive Committee to report to the next conference.'

The other problem with the motion is that it proposes to review a policy that doesn't exist! It MUST
be debated - and for this is must be ungrouped.

We need ten delegates to support ungrouping. Please would any delegates willing to support this
ungrouping (or is it degrouping?) e-mail Steve Coote at [email protected] The conference starts
on 5th April (this Friday). Thank you.
