How much work in the third term?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I was just wondering if much teaching takes place during the third term, as in writing essays, attending tutorials/seminars/lecures; or whether the whole term is simply exams? For example, on my course, they say I'll have to write about 5 essays a term, which is fine, but does it mean 10 in a year? :frown: Obviously I'll not get an exact answer, so maybe some of you could tell me how much teaching generally goes on in the third term, and how much work you have done in the past? Thanks.

At Manchester most of the third term is finishing essays and doing exams, but there are a few lectures. Easter is a bit weird and just cuts the semester in half almost. I imagine you'll have 5 essays per semester, there is a difference, semester and term are different things.

I would be worried if a whole term were devoted to exams. We have lectures, labs and tutorials, as usual, for the first half of the term, then revision classes and self-directed revision for the few weeks between the end of the official timetable and exams. Some places will spread out exams over endless weeks (with one or two each week, say) whilst other universities will pack them into a week, or even just a few days.

My uni has two semesters, but I remember we had terms at Middlesex and the third term depended on your subject. Teaching students had lectures then as well, whereas others didn't. They only had exams and essay writing time.

The third term = exams only

Teaching ends at the end of March at my university.

On my course it was just two semesters with two sets of exams. The third term was pretty non-existent, i had no lectures after easter, just a week or two of what would have been the third term as study leave, then two weeks of exams. So that term only lasted a month anyways...and then you're freeeeeeeeeee!! x
