sinister looking, painless lump at the back of my throat!

so... I started smoking one or two cigarettes a week, a couple of months ago. For the past week I have had a feeling of somthing small being stuck in my throat when I swallow. So I finally looked today and there is a small, white, painless lump just at the back of my mouth.

Darling mother assures me that its just an ulcer or somthing else small. But, being the paranoid hypocondriact I am, I am thinking mouth/throat cancer! Its the fact that its a painless lump more than anything (a painless lump being an early sign for a tumor)

should I waste the doctor's time with this?

I probably would have gone tommorow, but unless I want to go to A & E I will have to wait untill they open on monday...

It's sounds pretty normal to me. Sometimes we get deposits of food stuck in the cracks and crevises in our mouths and it often turns white when it's been there a while. I'm sure that's what I've read anyway.

I wouldn't worry about cancers just yet - they usually manifest themselves after years of damage. I would suggest you stop smoking anyway, because it's a stupid habit to start :P

go to the doctor on monday.

I'd say leave it and see how it goes, but mouth cancer tends to spread quickly, so it can't hurt to get it looked at. Doesn't sound like it'll be anything awful though; mouths and throats are sinister and lumpy by nature.

White lumps can often be Tonsilitus, theyre painless to start and then they can get more and more, all over the back of your throat. Easily curable with penicillin but the doctor wont give it you unless its quite bad. If it starts spreading though - go to the docs.

You need to get it checked asap. It could be nothing, but you need to get it checked just to be sure

I get quite a lot of white lumps in the back of my throat but they are caused by sore throats. My dad actually had mouth cancer a few years back (he's a non drinker and non smoker) so I always worry about things like that
