by the way that 79% was in AS biology. i am thinking of resitting it end of year but my school wont allow. is it possible to sit it as a private candidate and still do A2 bio exam in my own school? i would be receiving 2 results (one as a private candidate and the other would be an Alevel result)then....i dont know how its gonna work, i was thinkin is it possible?
It sucks when you're only 1% off!

1% may not be 1 mark... so be weary about the remark.

I don't think you'd have too much to lose with a remark, because you're quite a long way off from a C and very close to an A. Chances are you'd stay as a B, but if you want to then go for it.

is it a possibility i might get lower marks than before?
Reply 7
as in 79% to 78% etc?
Yes. They always take the second mark. Same chance as going down as up.
If ur doing A2 biology next year the differnce between an A and a B is extremly likely to change. They add up your marks from A2 and AS so even if ur one mark of an A this year it is unlikely to be the same at the end of next year.

If you feel the need for a remark, it can go up or down. Ur so close to the higher grade and far away from the lower one it is extremly unlikely to go down to a C but could pottnetially reach an A (though as said before marks and percentages are sometimes very different).

As for resiting which might be the best option if ur displeesed with how you did in a module and feel you could do allot better. This could increase your grade significantly (a remark is unlikely to do this) so that next year you don't have to get as high marks overall.

Resitting can be done externally and pritty easily. Try phoning other schools and large private tutors asking whether it would be possible for the subject and exam board (a little more pestering by the school might no hurt especially if you ask to do it with the AS students next summer). As for being a private candidate in your own school I think that would simply involve paying for the exam (which isn't that much).

It's interesting. I thought CIE doesn't give the school your raw marks or percentage, only your grade on each paper. My friend did CIE and he told me the school won't receive the mark break downs until the 20th of Aug.

A re-mark might be useful but it's quite expensive. You're very close to an A and it's very likely that you can bring your grade up to an A in A2.

Finally, someone mentioned the price.

You can get it remarked all you like but if it actually deserves 79%, you'll be wasting £30 or whatever each time...
I got my CIE results too.
Wow! 79% it's really good, I wouldn't resit if I were you and you were doing A2 next year.
I got a D in my biology CIE and an A in my spanish one.
I was really dissapointed about my D...I have nothing to do but resit on November:s-smilie:

so can any1 tell me why 79% is B grade and 80% is C
cuz i gave cie A levels and above 90% is A above 80% is C
confused
on one of the other threads on this forum... it say that if a remark goes up by a grade, then you'll be refunded the amount u paid for that unit remark.
Reply 15
yes you will be refunded.

I'd go for remark if I were you, OP.

Subjects like biology have quite detailed mark schemes so it is quite objective when marking and the mark is not likely to change.

Out of curiosity, how come you know your actual percentage, and so early? I was told that CIE never give it to its centers.

well mate you're far off with £30!

with £30 they'll only add up the marks again to check for any addition errors, i got a sheet about this, i'll post it here if i can find it.......... (i think its about £60)

well up here in nz(new zealand) when cambridge was started they were obliged to post a % mark next to the grade because the universities here have to compare it with our national exam board "ncea". for it to be a fair comparison cie posts % mark next to the grade. i think we are the only country in the world who receive % next to their grade for cie.
