I need 2 references. Right now i have one person who is willing to give me one, but i can't get another one. I have no work experience except for many years ago when i volunteered and the manager there has gone.

    I have just finished university.

You should be able to ask a couple of university tutors. Is there a professional friend of the family (teacher, doctor, architect, chartered accountant etc)?
You haven't said what the reference is for. The choice might be affected by the sort of skills or qualities that are being looked for. It might be a good idea to get in touch with wherever you are applying to explain the situation and ask their advice. Something along the lines of 'I have one reference but I was wondering who you would prefer for the second. It would show that you are a serious applicant and might avoid a faux pas.

The reference would be for a full time job or in the absence of that a voluntary role like the British heart foundation etc. I do have a professional family friend who could give me a reference but i have not heard from him in a long time and i don't know him that well.
