Christmas Seasonal Job

Hello, I am thinking of applying for a temporary Christmas job at a well known retail store.

I have one good reference to list down but not two because I left my last job on bad terms with my employer. I doubt if he will give me a good reference.

My question is for temporary seasonal jobs will companies contact both your references or they jut won't bother?
Most of the time for Christmas jobs they don't bother. Especially if they're desperate for a worker
