Aww, that song is just too sad! The video for that makes me cry like anything(Original post by Somebody)
Not sure if this is too lovey dovey or whatever, but:
I'll Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie
Yeah to the person who said 'Wherever You Will Go' by The Calling. 'Closer To Me' by Five is an idea but it's a bit sad and cheesy I always find 'Somewhere Else' by Razorlight a bit emotional, but maybe that's just me!
Personally I think 'Hey There Delilah' by the Plain White Ts would be great! It fits your situation, being apart from each other but still having feelings for each other. It's a beautiful song!
'You're My Best Friend' by Queen would also be a great choice!
'1259 Lullaby' by Bedouin Soundclash could be good, it's sweet but not too sad or lovey-dovey.
'High' by the Lighthouse Family maybe?
I don't know who it's by - the Charlatans maybe - but that "It was always you, and me, always, and forever, you, and me, always, and forever, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba, it was always you, and me, always" would be a good'un!
Or the ultimate...'All About You' by McFly!
Really sweet idea by the way!

Maybe you should say what your "aim" is here? Personally I wouldn't recommend trying to win her over or anything.
I thought someone was going to suggest Forever Young by the Youth Group (although the original by Alphaville could have a cool 80s feel to it ).
Are you looking for songs about leaving eachother or going to Uni? There are some well-known songs that are obvious choices like Beautiful Day by Lou Reed, Time of Your Life by Green Day, Wild World by Cat Stevens, Forever Young by Bob Dylan, You've got a Friend by James Taylor but maybe you want something a bit "unique"? The fact that you like the Calling, I have these suggestions which I think are a bit more suited:
Dexter Freebish - Leaving Town http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLw2ugNYrM8 I'd never seen the video, didn't realise it was a bit on the US high school/cheesy side but still great song.
The Verve Pipe - The Freshman (shame they don't say Fresher in the US)
I really recommend this one but might be on the "deep" side.
Thisway - Crawl
To stick a British song in there:
Three Colours Red - Beautiful Day
