If your teacher can't even tell you why you've not been predicted an A*, then it must be personal to some extent...

What is your behaviour like in class? Do you think that your teacher may think you are over-confident/arrogant? I'm not saying that you are because I don't know you but these may be possible reasons ( for example, if they think you're too confident about your abilities, they may be wary of predicting you an A* because it might make you 'relax' and not put in as much effort in as you did last year).

If I were you, I'd keep pestering them until they give you a valid reason.

If you honestly feel it's unfair and that you truly have not done a single thing to jeopardise that mark, go above their heads and take your concerns to a higher up. Explain the circumstances and why you feel you have been wronged and ask that they personally look into it. And, if you have to, you are still at a point in your life where you could call your parents in to demand the staff listen to you. Take advantage of that! It's the last time you can get mum and dad to fight your battles for you (oh god how I miss that).

However, if reading this you had even the slightest guilt and thought of a situation that might have lowered your mark, then don't do as I've described. If you've read this guilt-free then go ahead.
