I've learned and changed a lot from all of these, but I can't chose!! please help me, I'd love to know your thoughts. 1. took a trip to korea last summer, first time I traveled without family 2. My mom passed away when I was 10. 3. I took a computer science course last year, which is why I want to major in engineering 4. weight loss journey (how much details should I mention and too personal?)

Sorry to be brutal, but 1, 2 and 4 are completely irrelevant. I think it's fine to mention 3 to explain why you want to do engineering.

I agree with the previous comment. I think you shouldn't get too personal in your personal statement. I would take out this part as well: "bonded more with my dad". I'd recommend you read a few personal statements and watch videos on youtube, that helped me out!

A personal statement isnt really the right place for stories.

None of these stories are relevant to engineering - even number 3 essentially says "I want to do this because my dad is an engineer" which isn't recommended.

3 is the only one which is relevant.

If you wanted to do a course on bereavement counselling or something then maybe 2 would be okay, but for engineering? No.

The motto drummed into us at school & when I went to a Cambridge masterclass is everything must relate somehow to your degree choice.

Number 3 only says that he took a computer science course last year, nothing about his parents...

The original edit had number 3 being about how it brought him closer to his dad who is an engineer.
