Are friend requests automatically sent out? Because it seems like within large facebook groups, everyone always has everyone else in the group added as friends. Do people literally go through the group and click to add everyone as friends?
For those with FB accounts, do you add people as friends by manually searching them and clicking add as friends? Is that the only way to add people as friends?
also, are any social faux pas that I should avoid when using facebook?

I've never heard of requests being added automatically. It does seem sometimes (to me at least) some people will just randomly add me because I'm a member of a group they happen to post in.

Friend requests are never automatically sent out.
Searching for people is one way. Another common way is seeing people in a list of suggested friends (after you've got several friends it looks for people in common and asks if you know them). Another way is to find someone you know and go through their friends list. For example if you know someone from school you probably know a lot of their friends.
In terms of social faux pas, there's loads that generally centre around the unwritten rules of general social media etiquette. Common things like not liking someone's photo from 5 years ago for example. Also worth noting if you are new to Facebook it's super important you go into your settings and check what your privacy and security settings are like. Ultimately it's up to you how public you make things but you wouldn't want to have your house broken into because you posted that you were going on holiday and someone saw it.
As always take care on social media.
