Hi I got a question please help :

some fatty acids show cis-trans isomerism because there is a restricted rotation about a C=C double bond. state one other feature of these molecules that enables them to show cis-trans isomerism.

This is from one of the OCR papers.

Each carbon at each end of the double bond must have two different groups attached.

Thank you. Isn't there another answer for it? Or that's the only answer

F324 is almost dead, but assuming you're one of the few resitters; strictly OCR's definition of cis-trans was a little wonky, they wanted two things:

No rotation around a double bond
    AND
Each carbon having H and another group attached.

This was different to their E/Z definition, which is the one I gave earlier i.e. each carbon having two different things attached to each. Which made cis-trans a sub-set of E/Z.

Thank you and yes I am a resitter
