    Hi,

So the title says it all really - what should I expect in terms of placements as a Mental Health Student Nurse? More specifically, at Teesside University if there are any individuals which go/have previously been to that University!

Do you get to choose which placements you'd like, or are you just given them? Is there a crossover to adult placements i.e. on a general ward, or are we strictly given Mental Health placements? etc.

    Thank you

I can't speak for Teesside specifically, so someone else may be able to offer more info. Bear in mind though that course specifications can change with each cohort so advice given by a current student may not necessarily be the same for you when you start. If you want a better idea of what will happen, contact the university.*

Generally you will have quite a few adult placements as there just isn't the availability of MH ones to give you all MH placements. Your placements are usually allocated to you, there is just too much admin involved to allow people to choose. Sometimes universities offer one elective placement, or a period for potential study abroad, but this depends on the uni. The uni needs to make sure you get a certain range of placements to allow you to apply to the NMC register. *
