    A brick that is modeled as a particle of mass m kg sits on a smooth slope of angle 60 degrees to the horizontal, it is held at rest by a light in-extensible string parallel to the slope that is fixed at point A at the top of the slope. The tension in the string is 8N.

    a) Find the mass of the particle, give your answers to 3 s.f.
    b) Find the size of the reaction force between the particle and the slope force, give your answer to 3 s.f.

    I've drawn and labelled the force diagram, what equations do I need to rearrange for part a and b?

    For part a, resolve forces parallel to the plane: 8=mgsin60
    for part b, sub in your value for mass into an equation resolving forces perpendicular to the plane: Reaction force=mgcos60
