my wrist

not sure if this counts as H&R but anyway, i've been at work 12 days in a row now without a break, at a supermarket on a checkout.

a couple of days ago i woke up and my wrist was really aching, at first i thought it must just be that i'd slept on it funny, but it's been getting worse, i can't think of any other reason but it hurting from the repetitive motion of scanning......

im working today and tomorrow but it is really painful i don't know what to do, don't want to call in sick but the thought of sitting on a checkout for 8 hours today isn't good

Wear a support bandage and try to rest your wrist as much as possible when you're not working, and take ibuprofen for the pain if it gets bad. I get pains in my wrists and arms if I do too much of anything that's repetitive (typing etc), and that's what helps me.
Yeah just as Paeony said, it could be RSI.

Use your other hand. I assume you pick things up with your right at first, and that's the one that hurts. Pick things up with your left.

Also tell your manager, maybe find another role for you for a few days.

i work at a supermarket too, not much you can do but wear the support bands and maybe go to the docs to get it checked out?

Definitely sounds like a repetitive strain injury to me, you need to either wear a supporting bandage or rest it until the pain has completely gone. If it gets too painful your doctor can prescribe diclofenac I had that and it works, also works a treat with migraines too.
this is why they now are bring in double sided checkout

my advice is not to make it so bad it doesnt go back to normal - go see doctor emergncy style and take time off work or ask for lighter/different duties.

exactly what I thought
it is illegal to not be given a break on an 8 hour shift you should get a 30 minute break atleast.
know your **** or they will exploit you.

tell your employer, and rest - you shouldn;t continue if you're in pain.

what is that supposed to mean?

She's suggesting that you have been spending too long engaged in gentlemanly pursuits, and perhaps you should be spending a little less time doing this particular activity.

That's if you're a man, of course. (People with unfilled out profiles can be so awkward to give help to sometimes!)

I'd guess it's due to your checkout work, anyway. Make sure your workstation is comfortable, the height of your chair is correct etc so your wrist isn't in an awkward position. And definitely speak to your employer - they should be taking H&S issues very seriously; they need to by law. The place where I work (an office) we are supposed to spend a few hours filling out a self-assessment on risk and making sure we're comfortable whenever we move desks.
