Will universities allow pets in halls if you're mentally ill, like council housing?
I mean -- I'm really nervous that I won't be able to find a decent private accommodation for my cat, but eek !! I don't really have any other choice but to give him away otherwise.

Generally speaking the answer is no. *Do you know which uni you are going to ? *
Also what kind of pet is it? *The rooms are small so not suitable for dogs. *

I've never heard of this being allowed and tbh student halls are not really the right place for a cat... it would be stuck in a tiny room because there'll be no appropriate route in and out of the building, it'll be loud... you don't know who may be allergic and your deposit is not going to be adequate to cover damage caused by an animal.

Your best bet would be to try and find a private landlord who will allow pets.

Agreed with the other two posters that halls are not the place for a cat. Many halls rooms literally don't come with room to swing one, plus halls can often be noisy places and this could cause the cat distress or alarm.

Case-by-case. Contact the uni and explain your situation.
