Manchester appears to be more crime ridden than Birmingham; Why?

    • Thread Starter

In every crime category bar two, (drugs and possession of weapons) Manchester dominates in terms of numbers of crime committed.

Why should this be? Manchester itself has a population of 514,414 compared to Birmingham at 1,101,360 so surely Birmingham should have the higher crime rate? I don't know the overall numbers for Birmingham or Manchester so it could pan out that Birmingham has the higher crime rate overall but this is based on it being within a one mile radius of the city centre.

What is it counting as '1 mile radius of Manchester', though?

And it could be that more crime is reported in Manchester than it is in Birmingham.
