Please help with maths practice for uni admission tests?

Size:  98.9 KBHi, I've tried to understand these questions but I'm quite far from the correct answers, please show me the method of how to do these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it, thank you.

    For the first question, it can look a bit daunting at first but you need to remember to try to keep things simple.
    It's easier to consider the roots of quadratics as opposed to the solutions of quadratic equations; that is, it's easier to analyse the roots if you write both equations as a quadratic equal to 0.

    You're then trying to use what you know about the first quadratic to deduce stuff about the second. Do you notice how the second is related to the first?
