Does playing sport to a reasonable level have any effect on admissions tutors, for example playing rugby to county/ academy level?
Like that scene from "History Boys" where he got accepted into oxford because he played rugby.
Overall does the old fashioned low offers because of sport still occur?

    Nope.
They are only interested in your academics and suitability for the course
......... unless maybe you are Olympic medal level rower applying for postgraduate opportunities at Oxford / Cambridge

if you're doing something competitive say medicine, then they would prefer you play something in your free time. our teachers told us that so they think you're not an 'academic robot' lol

No, you will not get a low offer due to sport. Nor will it be substantially considered for a course for which it is irrelevant.

You could perhaps spin some leadership/teamworking thing out of it in the PS, but that's about it.

If you were applying to the US it would be completely different. But not here.

Unless you're applying for a sport science degree, it's not that important.
