Heyy, I was wondering if any current students could give advice on what the social scene is like at Lancaster. From what I've heard its heavily focused on the academic side whereas other big cities Uni's are great for their party scenes. Any advice at all?

It's different for everyone from what I've seen so far (I'm in second year) for being social. In terms of halls and being social it depends on your flatmates, some are more social than others, it's more down to luck of the draw with who you get. On my course in first year I was friends with several people who commuted, some still do, and it can be hard to arrange things if they have to go home straight after lectures. There are plenty of societies and clubs to go at for being social, it's just a case of finding something you're interested in and talking to people. There are nights out all term, just a more limited selection of places to go than other cities. I've found it to be a bit mixed socially, people are willing to have a quick chat but I rarely spend time with people outside of class. It just all depends really, you might get lucky and have really sociable people in your course/halls, you don't know until you get here. I'd just advise talking to as many people as possible, whether in your flat/college/classes/societies and see how it goes.
