Generally yes, you will get paid more in a speciality, although radiographers also get paid more with experience and take on more responsibility as their roles advance.

Sonographers start at Band 7 because they do their own reporting, ergo more responsibility, and need to complete a Masters degree course (although recently undergraduate ultrasound has become an option). It's the only modality that offers an automatic band 7 post.

Radiographers start at Band 5 but generally progress quickly to 6 with in house training and there are plenty of opportunities to be 7 or above.

I found out via this forum that BCU offered a BSc ultrasound course but after checking just now it's not on the website anymore: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=3951135
