help! I am nearly in tears....I didn't know that I needed a clearing passport before I callded up universities, because my friend last year applied through UCAS on the day of clearing and is now at surrey, UCAS advisors are now telling me I must have a clearing passport! What can I do? All I need is a reference but none of my tutors are in college! Is there any way universities will consider me for clearing or will I have to wait a year?:frown:

Have you applied through UCAS at all this year? I think you can be re-instated into clearing if you applied and withdrew. You may even be able to apply now to go straight into clearing.

If not, don't panic. Some universities will accept you directly if you explain that you haven't applied through UCAS, although this is more likely to apply to the metropolitan unis.

If you can't get a reference but need to fill out your UCAS form ASAP apply independantly, put in your referees contact details and write "Reference available on request" in the actual reference box.

If you have not applied this year, then you can still aspply up until 20th September, but you will automatically go into Clearing because you hold no offers due to applying at this late stage. You can apply independently. One option is to ask someone else to write you a reference - but it must be someone in a professional position who is able to comment impartially on your suitability for the course and not a relative, who must have known you for at least two years. If you have applied this year, and you need to enter Clearing due to missing your grades or have decided to change course or University (although you won't know yet), UCAS will automatically send you a passport. You do not need to wait until it arrives in order to contact Universities - but if they are accepting you, they will ask you to send it to them when you receive it. If you have any other questions, please post again and we will try to help.

    Good luck with the results!
