    hey
my friend is really depressed and not coping well at uni but they dont want to leave in case they are made to pay back student finance immediately. will this be the case? especially considering technically it should be classed as a health reason, surely that would be pretty cruel to make people pay back immediately?

Doubt it. They would probably offer you a repayment option per month, whatever your friend can afford (even £5 per month). Due to circumstances, they would probably give her a few months before starting repayments. Hope they are okay. Depression sucks

as Sizzzla112 says, repayment can be delayed by a few months if the applicant dropped out due to extenuating circumstances and have evidence to prove this.
