I'm a 19 year old girl who works part time at a carehome. This new woman started work there. Anyways someone asked if I was back at uni and then the new lady was like: 'oh what are you studying?'
Me: 'chemical engineering'
Her: 'WHAT?!! Why do you want to do that????!' (the way she said it was really rude and her tone and facial expression made it seem like I'd told her I was a binman)
Me: 'i think it's quite interesting, and the career prospects aren't bad'
Her: *raises eyebrows* 'and what do you be with that?'
Me: 'well I'd like to be a chemical engineer'
Her: 'Oh.....well err...that's.......different
I don't understand what her problem was. She isn't very educated herself so why make me feel like i'm an idiot
New woman made me feel like I was a failure? Watch

tbh chemical engineering is the sort of thing anyone who actually understands what it is will be impressed or interested... sounds like she had no idea or perhaps had some sexist ideas about a woman doing engineering
I worked in a care home and there were some people there who were very insecure about what they'd done with their lives and would put down anyone with a good education/prospects

She sounds old fashioned, like that's a 'man's job' thing. Ignore her, she's just silly. Nothing wrong with your career choice, good on you!
