Can anyone help me in defining what is entropy,
I have come across some definitions like
1.measure of disorder in a system
2.dispersal of energy and molecules in a system
3.randomness in a system

they would all be pretty correct
My A2 textbook states it as: the measure of the number of ways that particles can be arranged and the number of ways that the energy can be shared out between the particles.

the more something is fixed the worse it gets for eg

a messy room gets tidied, the room gets worse than before.

Entropy as a term has different meanings, it depends on the topic. Know two of them:

In physics (in thermodynamics to be exact), it means a taken up state which is irreversible, an ice cube for instance cannot come back to the the original state (solid) by itself when it is melted to water.

In chemistry, it means the degree of disorder: the more atoms are not bonded to each other, the more atoms are (randomly) in movement, the greater the entropy (just think about the gaseous state). So entropy stands for a dispersal system of atoms (or molecules).
