MA in Achivism and records management

Hey,

I am considering doing this when I have completed my BA. Is anyone else considering this degree or does anyone have experience of it? I'm currently doing a BA Hons degree History and feel that this would be a good next step. From the research I have done I believe that the best step to take whenI have graduated is to do an internship for a year. Anyone got any info?

Thanks

edit: sorry about spelling archivism wrong, I don't know how to change it

This is on connexions:

"After gaining a first degree, students then study for a postgraduate qualification in archives and records management. The Society of Archivists recognises courses at the following universities:

* University of Wales, Aberystwyth
* University College Dublin
* University of Liverpool
* University College London
* University of Dundee.

There is also a course at the University of Glasgow which is likely to be accredited in the near future.

Most of these courses are offered on a one-year full-time basis, or two years part time. Opportunities for distance learning are increasing. Further information is available on the Society of Archivists' website.

Knowledge of Latin is useful for some posts in county archives, but for the majority of jobs it is not necessary."

Hi Sheryl,
I am just about to start this course in September. The more work experience you can get the better. There seem to be more and more placement schemes being advertised, but I would expect them to be real popular. If you are serious about taking this career route, then i would apply as soon as possible for the available placements. See the Society Of Archivists web site for a full list of placements.
Good luck whatever you choose.:smile:

Oh thanks for that. I'm just going into second year but thought it would be could to start considering what to do nect because I know I will prpbably need to do a placement between graduating and doing the MA. How soon can I apply for a placement? Do you mind me asking where you are taking the course?

Hey!
Wow you are way more on the ball than me! I left it too late to apply for most of the positions (typical of me!), and as a result have had to volunteer and fit it around work for the past year why I saved up. I would start looking for upcoming positions from Xmas of your final year, although perhaps you could see if there are any part time volunteer opportunities local to before then. For the courses the more experience you have the better. The competition to get on the courses is quite stiff I believe, sure i only got in by the skin of my teeth! Oh yeh, I will be doing the Liverpool course and am really looking forward to it, although a little nervous.

Hope this helps, :smile:
