Hi, I'm looking to join the RAF but unfortunately I desperately need a C or above in GCSE maths, I've got the the other 4 GCSE grades I need for the chosen job I want to do, but maths has really come back to bite me, I have retaken it already this year and failed, I'm getting to the point now where I am getting a bit desperate, obviously exams don't come around every couple of weeks and I will have to wait again until June to retake!! What I want to know is if there is an EQUIVALENT qualification I can get to a C in maths GCSE? I've been reading through forums and info on it is foggy, I rang my local AFCO and they were not very helpful atall, I found a webpage which had charts with all the (Royal Air Force educational equivalencies) - https://www.raf.mod.uk/recruitment/m...quivalents.pdf
The first one I noticed was Certificate In Adult Literacy Or Numeracy at a Level 3 was acceptable to a GCSE C Grade, when I asked my AFCO about it they were no help on this whatsoever they didn't seem to know.
I was wondering if anyone can help me on here if they know any info on this sort of thing or have had first hand experience with joining the RAF with a qualification other than a GCSE. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks guys!

Hello. That PDF is correct - if something is marked as an equivalant, it will be accepted.

I have the same issue but with my English GCSE.

I was told you had to have the minimum requirements, but i was also sent the Royal Air Force educational equivalencies link, which i don't really understand.

I have an undergraduate degree and just finishing a masters degree, but everyone i speak to seems a bit lapse on the issue.

I rang up again in the week and found out, I asked about the equivalencies page but they didn't have a clue what I was on about, the careers adviser said to me that the best one to do is iGCSE they accept this, i managed to book in to my local college to take the exam at the start of January I had to pay double as I missed the registration deadline thought but just gunna cram as much in as possible now, you can purchase the iGCSE course online so you get the material and then will have to find a college or school where you can sit the iGCSE exam, if your quick you will be able to get on for the January exam otherwise it's a wait till June! Also the English iGCSE is a lot easier than a normal English GCSE I took this a few years ago.

Different roles require different qualifications. Look up the role you are interested in, but maths is a pretty basic qualification. If they say they want it, you have to have it before entry.
